Cook County Health provides a comprehensive benefits package for housestaff physicians and their dependents.
The benefits include:
Resident Salary (effective June 1, 2026):
PGY-1: $66,647 (increases to $69,313 effective December 1, 2026)
PGY-2: $70,367 (increases to $73,182 effective December 1, 2026)
PGY-3: $73,800 (increases to $76,752 effective December 1, 2026)
PGY-4: $77,467 (increases to $80,565 effective December 1, 2026)
House staff physicians receive a meal stipend of $240 per 2-week pay period ($6,240 annually). This stipend is included as a supplemental salary in addition to the base PGY salary listed above.
An educational allowance of $1,500 per year is available for reimbursement of expenses related to conferences, seminars, review courses, and the purchase of educational materials.
House staff physicians are entitled to the following paid leaves per academic year: 21 vacation days, 13 holidays, 12 sick days, 5 conference days, and 3 bereavement days.
Blue Cross Blue Shield HMO or PPO health insurance, dental coverage, vision plan, disability insurance, workers’ compensation, life insurance, pension plan, and flexible spending accounts.
